I Looked For Rubies

I looked for rubies I looked for gold I looked for sorrow For tales untold I sought the grave I sought the truth I searched for answers I searched for you I left my home I left my fire I lost my dreams I lost desire Across the prairie Beneath the hill Beside the ocean Beyond my will Bridge The rubies shattered, like broken wine The gold was hollow, the grave unkind Your face was fading beneath the flood Wait, wait, my darling, my heart is good Verse You stepped across A river wide A step that brought You into night My only goal Could not be won I found the rubies Already gone
